The Team Behind Abnormalville...
Alex Rennie
Alex Rennie is the artist and writer/co-creator of the strip. He has won awards for his designs and art, and has been published in books as well as corporate cartoons and posters. He's been represented by the Directory of Illustration (volumes 34 and 37), and had a small brush with editorial cartooning for the Chicago Tribune nearly 20 years ago - drawing a cartoon for a story which was never published (though he did get paid).
Alex was born and raised near Chicago, he attended Northern Illinois University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in art, then later attended circus school as an acrobat. At the age of 30 he moved to San Diego to pursue a childhood dream of... surfing.
It was there that he met his (now) wife at a retreat. Following his heart once again, Alex moved to the Great White North of Canada, where she’s from (nobody believed he had a “girlfriend in Canada” for some reason). Why they chose the cold, snowy mountains, over warm, sandy beaches remains a mystery (but the Law knows...)
Frank Hildebrandt
Frank Hildebrandt is the other half of the “Abnormalville” creative team. Frank was raised on the farm in Manitoba, Canada, where he was forced to use his imagination a lot growing up. His favorite game was competitive lawn darts - “Farmer” style. You had to catch the dart launched over the roof from the other side, (we didn’t say it was a good use of his imagination).
In his teens, Frank would write old style radio broadcast plays and record them on cassette with his two best friends, complete with voices and sound effects. Picture Marvin the Martian meets Sam Spade - Oscar worthy stuff - (did we mention he was raised on a farm?)
By his mid-twenties, he had perfected the art of making people laugh at the right moment, (amazing how much fluid can fly out of someone’s nose!) Frank is also an accomplished musician, he's the one who created the jingles for The Abnormal Hour podcast.
Whether professionally or as a past time, Frank will make people laugh ‘till the day he dies. And even then, he already has some ideas for his funeral; like a group photo of all attendees in Groucho glasses – ooh, and Frank as well!
